Guild Rules

The Basics
Treat your fellow guildies and your officers with respect. We're all real people trying to have fun in a computer game. There's no need for heated quarrels about events in a virtual world. However, there is a need to talk about concerns or problems -- don't keep things that bother you private -- it will add up and eventually will be harder to solve. But keep in mind: We talk with each other, not about each other.
Feel free to bring forth your statements for important suggestions and complaints in the corresponding forum if a simple chat in-game, a whisper, a mail or a post in a class forum won't do the trick.

Dedication
Docet Umbra is a raiding guild and as such it depends on the commitment of its members -- punctuality and reliability are two examples that one might take for granted; but we found that they're not. To keep it short and simple: We expect our members to actively show interest in the guild, be it ingame or on the forums. If you like to invest as little as possible, this is not the place for you.

The goals
Our guild aims to beat all the hard mode encounters and achievements set for the PvE raiding content. Every raiding member must have the motivation, skills and hardware to cope with the strict requirements. If achievements and hard mode are not your cup of tea, we are not the guild you should apply to.

Recruitment
The officers will decide on who joins our ranks and who doesn't. Please do not comment on applications in the recruitment-forum. If you have any objections or recommendations concerning applications, talk to one of our officers or use the corresponding subforum in the private section.

Age
We have a strict minimum-age-policy. Potential Trialees will have to be at least 18 years old in order to stand a chance -- all our members are of full age.

The Ranks
Guild Master -- Ariakon/Sojourn
He is the big boss, he does not have to answer to anyone or give an account of anything. However, he will generally listen to every member's opinion and explain the decisions he makes, which will then be accepted by the rest of the guild -- whether individuals agree with them or not.

Managing-Officer(s) -- Threejane
They are the "right hand" of the guild-master and in charge should the guild-master be absent for some time. They will assist with tasks concerning general guild-management and they're in charge of the forums.

Recruitment-Officer(s) -- Internecine
They will evaluate applicants and decide who joins our ranks.

Member
You will reach this rank after one month within the guild.

Trialee
Welcome to Docet Umbra -- you will be a Trialee for four weeks.

Honorary Member
This rank is meant for players that helped us back when we founded Docet Umbra and will be assigned on special occasions -- Honorary Members are not eligible for raids

Absence
If you're going to be offline for some time, please let us know. Unannounced (!) absence for more than two weeks is likely to lead to a guild-kick and will force you to reapply.
We are very understanding as far as real-life-obligations go, but we expect our members to show dedication and actively let us know about such obligations.

The Forums
We highly recommend to check the forums as often as you can and feel like it. The forums are the one and only communication-platform for the whole guild and a lot of the guild's communications and social stuff are going on there.
We expect you to check the forums regularly and actively participate. Constantly asking questions that are already answered on the forums and having a postcount with only one digit after being part of the guild for several weeks won't make you look good.

Raid Rules

Basics
In raids, instance runs and during guild events we expect a certain politeness, level of patience and concentration from all participants. If all put in the same effort and dedication, it will result in a lot of fun for all.

Whining & Bitching
Raid Morale is very precious and fragile. Every single person is responsible for it and should act accordingly. There are many obstacles and difficult situations raid-groups have to cope with. And the only way those can be overcome is by acting like a team and by being constructive. Pointless whining, bitching, pessimism and finger-pointing will not be tolerated.
Docet Umbra is not the place for killjoys who like to spam the raid-chat with a dozen reasons why certain obstacles can't be overcome. We want team-players who are ready to bite the bullet when needed and thus get the job done.

Addons
There are three addons we require you to have installed in order to join our raids:
- oRA2
- Big Wigs
- Omen
DBM is allowed as additional addon, but you should have the above mentioned installed nonetheless.

Raid Spots
Raid spots are filled by the raid leader team. This will be done according to many factors such as, group balance, equipment (like resistance gear), dedication in and outside raids for the raids (this includes punctuality as well as stuff like farming for flasks and needed mats for certain encounters). Of course classes can always decide a rotation if desired. Raid leader's word is final.

Raidplanner
In order to be eligible for a raid-spot we expect you to sign up or actively unsign for raids as soon as possible. We offer a convenient tool on our website for this and we will schedule raids well in advance to make things as easy as possible -- all we ask in return is that you use this tool.
This not only ensures that we can actually plan raids, it's also a way to show that you care about the guild and want to help us keep it running, with almost no effort. If you can't be bothered to check the planner regularly, this is not the right guild for you.

Talent Specs and Raid Roles
Docet Umbra will rely heavily on the concept of raidroles for every single member in the guild. This is most important for hybrid classes obviously, but there are also other classes that can have different functions depending on spec.
Since the loot in dungeons is clearly designed for special purposes, it has to be clear that not everyone is eligible for every item he or she can use or equip, but only destined for loot which fits his or her raidrole.
The raidrole is fixed until a player would choose to change it. We do not force anyone to go for a certain spec and thus a raidrole. However, if you want to change, this has to happen before a raid.

Voice Communication
During our raids we will use the raid-chat and TeamSpeak to communicate. We don't expect you to talk on TeamSpeak, but we ask you to have it installed so you're able to listen to the commands of the raid leader.

PvE
While a lot of our members enjoy the PvP-aspect of World of Warcraft, we chose to be a raiding-guild. Thus there is no place for PvP-sessions while a raid is scheduled. On raid-nights we expect every member to drop PvP-activities to ensure our PvE-progress without turning a hair.

Loot
We use a Zero Sum DKP system for loot-distribution.
Always keep in mind: Loot will drop over and over again. Every single piece will be replaced sooner or later. There is absolutely no reason to argue about equipment or fight for it. We will not tolerate childish loot-quarrels.

Basic Loot Rules

Members Over Trialees
Members always take priority over trialees. Trialees are only eligible for loot that would be sharded otherwise. If you think this is rude, rethink your attitude and keep in mind that you will earn quite a lot of DKP during your four-weeks-trial if you prove to be a constant raider, thus allowing you to get loot relatively quick once you're a member.

One Epic Per Boss
You won't be allowed to loot more than one item from a boss unless loot would be sharded otherwise. So think about which items you roll on.

Wishlists, Agreements, ...
You are more than welcome to work out wishlists, priorities and whatnot within your class and between multiple classes. However, these will be off the record.

Irrevocable
We are happy to discuss our loot-system and its rules on the forums but not during a raid. Any decision made by the Raid-Leader and/or the Loot-Master will be final and is not to be contested.
